Musings from D: The love I’ve come to know

This man. He’s literally taught me what ‘love’ is. I became very guarded to be in a relationship after many years of physical and emotional abuse in previous relationships. Each leaving me emptier and further away from the woman I intended to be. I lost sight of her: the woman whose light and passion shined bright.

A lot of work, introspection and my faith has allowed me to heal from my past.

But no man has ever purely loved me for me and filled that area in my life, which I began to believe was no longer possible—until he came along. He is gentle and respectful, he is adaptable, yet leads. He encourages me to share my passion and gifts and believes in me more than I could ever believe in myself. There is always trust, always work within our relationship, and an unwavering foundation.

So as we land on Valentines Day again this year, I’m reminded that although, once not my favorite holiday, it has now become special.

I have to tell you about an annual tradition that he’s implemented! Each year I am hand-crafted a music CD for this ‘special day’ to commemorate love. We both have a huge heart for music! Each song and lyric are lovingly thought out, as well as a creative cover and title designed! I’m building a collection over here ladies! And to me, those songs, and those cd’s that sit on the shelf have much more to do than celebrating a day—for me, it’s my unique reminder of love. Love can be found in words. It can be found in a gentle squeeze of the hand. It can be found in a loving tender gaze. This love I have is peaceful and it’s the love I have come to know.

There aren’t enough words to describe the love I feel for him—

…yet these lyrics by one of my favorite artists always hits home.

I’ve grown accustomed to his face,

He almost makes the day begin,
.
I’ve grown accustomed to the tune he whistles night and noon.
.
His smiles, his frowns, his ups, his downs—are second nature to me now,
.
Like breathing out and breathing in.

I was so really independent and content before we met,

Surely I could always be that way again and yet,

I’ve grown accustomed to his looks,

Accustomed to his voice,

Accustomed to his face.

I’ve gotten used to hear him say good morning everyday.

His joys, his woes, his highs, his lows—are second nature to me now,

Like breathing out and breathing in.—Artist: Diana Krall

Thank you for sharing this life with me, my love.
