Musings from D: Holiday memories

christmas tree

Hi friend!

We welcomed ‘Lee the Tree’ to our urban apartment in Chicago this weekend. He’s decorated with great history and sentimental memories that I get to admire over the next 30 days.

Dried grape vines brought from our old vineyard are twisted around Lee’s branches from trunk to top. He holds ornaments from days gone by that my husband and I expertly crafted from childhood, including; felt angels, painted ceramics, play-doh and shrinky-dinks (now I’m dating myself!). And then he has the honor of holding handmade beaded Santas and snowmen from my Grams Opal. I can still she her working meticulously at all of her crafts.

But the final job Lee has is his most honored. As he shines bright, he allows vintage cards/postcards of those we have lost through the years rest peacefully on his branches. They have handwritten notes in them that share their love to others during the holiday. They reflect joy, hope, faith and treasured memories.

This effort, of having our tree hold out all of these memories for us to see, has become an important way to honor our lives and all those who have beautifully impacted them.

I hope that although there may be loss in your life, that this month carries treasured memories for you. And that instead of sadness, you can intentionally feel gladness!

Big love and I hope you enjoy the photos from our Tree ventures below!
