Embrace Your Journey to Live Your Magic

Insight from Thriving Women

Writing contribution: Megan Smidt

Sweet friend, when I was 15 and wearing every color of the rainbow at the same time, my hair in two side buns like Princess Leia, and I was spending all of my free time in southern California coffee houses listening to my friends’ obscure electronic bands play, I never thought you and I would be meeting here today.

Embrace Your Journey to Live Your Magic

Nor when I was 23 and struggling with an eating disorder.

Nor when I was 26 and leaving my first husband after a year of marriage because he 100% turned my life upside down.

Nor when I was 27 and as “dad’s girlfriend,” became a full-time mom to my then boyfriend’s 5 kids (we got married when I was 28).

Nor when I was 32 and we moved halfway across the country because the economy tanked and our house went into foreclosure and we needed to build a new life for our family of 7 to thrive.

Nor when I was 34 and I legally adopted all 5 of those amazing kids (all the praise hands!).

Nor when I was 36 and began my journey of being a certified life coach.

Nor when I was 41 and finally decided to give my coaching business all I’ve got by moving my career status from “hobby coach” to full-time life-changer, embracing my coaching magic and becoming friends with sweet Dannielle.

Nope, not once along the way did I ever think that you and I would be meeting right here today…. But every single second of that journey led me right here to you.

How crazy cool is that?

Every person on this planet has a path and purpose to fulfill, whether they realize it or not. Whether it is fulfilled within your career, volunteer work, parenting, other relationships, creating social change, or something else entirely, you absolutely have a brilliant purpose through who you authentically are and the journey that has led you to where you stand right now.

When you give yourself all of the s p a c e you need to reflect and embrace your journey, that’s where the magic happens.

Embrace Your Journey to Live Your Magic

Not sure where to begin to find your passion and connect it to your journey to begin to embrace it and live your purpose?

Friend, I’ve got you covered! *wink

Grab a journal and pen and find a distraction-free, quiet spot and let’s do this!

Here are six surefire ways to embrace your journey and begin to live your magic today:

1. List out what you love and begin to connect the dots.

Naming and claiming the things you absolutely love to do in life is the single best thing you can do to find your passion and purpose. It may not make sense at first, but all of the things you enjoy doing are part of your path in one form or another. It’s time to grab that pen and paper and start writing. By creating what I call a ‘Love List’, you get really clear on all of the things you love including foods, experiences, travel, and the things you love to do. Once you have your list, take a step back and see how all of these beautiful pieces might connect to the work you are meant to do in the world.

***The key is to be open, honest, and to let your inspiration run wild. (Hint: The pieces may come together in a way you never dreamed of, so keep an open mind.)

2. Explore what things you do with ease.

Often times our passion and purpose are staring us right in the face, but they are so natural to us, we don’t think anything about it. The things that you do in your everyday life with ease are likely in some way connected to what you are meant to do. Don’t overlook the things that come easy for you. I guarantee that just because they are easy for you, doesn’t mean that they come easy for everyone else. By identifying what comes naturally to you, you can then begin to build on those strengths and help others in ways you never thought possible. How cool is that?

3. Take a look at your past.

Many times the very struggles we’ve managed to move through in our lives become part of the tapestry that is our purpose. By reflecting on your past and the circumstances that you’ve successfully moved through, you have a perspective that many people in the world do not. Please embrace this with everything that you are. You can then use that experience to help others who are just starting out on a similar journey and make a huge impact in the world. What part of your life story do you feel passionate about? Typically, there is where you will find a clue as to what your bigger purpose might be.

4. Play and Reflect with child-like wonder.

As adults we tend to forget about the joy and freedom we felt as a child. When you were younger it’s likely that you had a wild imagination and were open to any and all possibilities about what you could be. Whether it was being a singing and dancing firefighter or the teacher who also saved the world, you never once questioned the reality of your dreams. You simply allowed your imagination and heart to guide you. It’s time to spark up your creativity and get dreamy again by tapping into your inner child. Get out of your head for a bit and into your heart and go have some good old-fashioned fun…. then take some time to reflect on it. This is usually where you will find your major ‘aha’ moments that will lead you to amazing ideas and ultimately your purpose.

5. Do what makes you happy…all of it.

Take some time to reflect and write about what all makes you feel alive, full of joy and complete in your soul. Finding your passion is directly related to doing the things that light you up and set your soul on fire. If it makes you happy to sing, write, and build things then go do it! If you love to teach, run & host live events then please, do it all! Who says your life purpose has to be just one thing? Humans by nature have multiple interests and to feel like you have to choose one thing goes against the very freedom you likely desire. You are meant to experience life and all that it has to offer, so don’t limit yourself to just one thing. Try many different things and do what makes you happy. Therein lies the path to your true purpose.

(Hint: everything that has been on your life journey up until now will give you great perspective and insight into what does and doesn’t make you happy… take a minute with all of that stuff, too!)

6. Ask for help from your inner circle.

If you are still feeling stuck in embracing the magic found in your life’s passion and purpose, it might be time to ask others for help. As your own worst critic, it can be difficult for you to see where you truly shine because you are simply too close to be able to connect the dots on your own. Friends, family members, and professionals (like coaches) have a view that you don’t and they can help you see things within yourself that will lead you to living a life not only what you love, but also what will make you THRIVE in doing what you are meant to do.

Passion and purpose go hand-in-hand, so when you are struggling to find your purpose get back to what brings you joy and in no time you will be making a difference while also living a life you love.

Dear heart, your journey matters because of what you notice, whom you impact, and the legacy you leave.

And if you need help reflecting or are craving to go even deeper, I have your back….

I created this FREE 31 day (5 minutes a day) Find Your Why & Live to Thrive journal guide to help you begin to know who you really are and what you really want. I hope it further helps you to continue this journey of self-discovery and embracing your journey to live your magic.

Isn’t it wonderful, the wisdom that comes from seeing that your journey, no matter how difficult, forms you into the person you are today. And that new experiences continue to mold us and make us. Beautifully written. Thanks for sharing!

I find the biggest struggle to be fitting your dream into your life and still finding balance. There are so many things in life you’re “supposed” to be doing and it’s so much to juggle. Doing what I want and need to do to build my dream on top of managing the house, managaing my kid, cooking, etc. The guilt of I’m designing over here but the kitchen over there is a disaster, I should be cleaning the kitchen instead. Building the life you want while living the life you have, it’s hard.

So true, Alicia! The best way to get a handle on the balance is to have as much of a cease-fire of activity as possible to give you some space to explore what this balance can even look like and begin to put the pieces back together. I hope you are able to have a little time to breathe, re-center, and build a new balance into your days. Keep me posted, friend! xoxo

I needed this. I’ve just started out in the blogging world — but I already feel so welcomed, at home, like it was what I’ve been waiting for all these years! These points make so much sense and I’ve already started journaling out a plan with these in mind.
